BAG ART
BE PART OF A CREATIVE PROJECT TO REDUCE PLASTIC BAG USE IN SHEFFIELD!
Sharrow Bag Art is a competition to customise a cloth bag. It is free to enter and open to all Sheffield artists and creative people.
As well as the chance to be part of an innovative, creative campaign to promote sustainability in Sheffield, all participants will have their design displayed throughout the city in a month long, touring exhibition, and will have the chance to become a member of CAN - a growing artists’ network. Winners will be chosen by a panel, and at least one design will be reproduced for sale throughout Sharrow, Nether Edge and beyond…
All you have to do is:
1) Pick up a plain cloth bag and fill in an entry form at: The Old Sweet Shop / Showroom / Yorkshire Art Space / Café Euro / London Road Gallery / Airy Fairy / Which Craft / Solo / Bragazzis / Sharrow Community Forum / Encounters-(tuesdays and thursday only)
Bags can be collected from 1st August.
2) Make the bag unique – sew it, print it, paint it…..
3) Drop off your (labelled) bag design in one of the above locations by 1st September.
All participants are invited to a launch event and auction at The Old School, South View Road, Sharrow on 16th September at 7:30pm.
Auction proceeds will go towards the reproduction of a chosen design.
Please note that to be reproduced, your design must be one-sided, using no more than four colours, and preferably available as a digital image. However all bags will be eligible for prizes, and all will be exhibited, so please be as creative as you like!
Criteria for competition:
Most Crafty
Most Imaginative/whacky!
Most reproducable
Best Design winner, second and runner up.
Bags will be autioned at the launch night 16th Sep at Old Sharrow Primary School. We hope that people will buy the bags so proceeds can go into reproducing them and encouraging the use of cloth bags.
All bags will then be exhibited in Solo, The Forum, Highfields Library, The Old Sweet Shop and upstairs at Airy Fairy for one month. They will the be returned to their new owner or original artist depending if they were bought.
Good luck and any questions email sharrowlanterncarnival@hotmail.co.uk
